Salmon, salmon, and more salmon. Both Bluewater Staff and customers have been reporting some outrageous captures from all over metro waters and the surrounds, including staff member Luke Ryan and his crew’s two metro Marlin. The Mindarie area is where the best reports are coming from. Boat Snapper are in close with good numbers being caught in shallow water of Hillary and in Cockburn Sound. Shark mackerel are also around and have been found around bait balls on various reefs and among st other pelagic. The numbers aren’t huge but the size of the fish healthy and truly makes up for it. The herring are showing up in good numbers around Fremantle with a small Hurley bringing them in for a feed. Plenty of bream are being caught but size has been small. Appropriate reports that Spanish Mackerel have showed up and are being caught in local waters this week. Local beaches are compressed with appropriate size Tailor, whether you choose to walk the beach with light gear and a metal twisty looking for schools of Mullet to find the Tailor or putting a Julie out on a Beach Rod you will get among st some appropriate fish at this time of year. The snapper have been extremely abundant with the majority of the fish being of appropriate size. Even if you are not occupied this jig, the swell on the boat is sufficient to make it rise and flutter on its own, making this the easiest jig to use to catch your target species. I have finally found it, the soft plastic that I consider for myself the superior soft bait on the market for targeting west coast base fish. Because the material is so soft, a lot of the time I believe the current is strong adequate to work the plastic for me. When using wooden pots be sure to soak them for a couple days, the pots will bubble for a few days until all the trapped air is out of them.
