The Legal Profession Complaints Committee, which deals with professional complaints and discipline, is an independent statutory committee of the Board. Refer to information on the formal process of applying for admission. A copy of your entire application must be lodged at the Legal Practice Board. You can lodge your application for a practicing certificate when you lodge the copy of your notice of application for admission with the Legal Practice Board. If you grip a current NZ practicing certificate, your WA practicing certificate will be issued effective the date you lodge your completed application for a practicing certificate, provided you have lodged your application for admission with the Court and provided a copy of that notice to the Board. All practicing certificates are issued subject to the restricted practice requirements of section 50 of the Legal Profession Act 2008 unless your certificate of appropriate standing states you are entitled to an unrestricted practicing certificate in NZ or you yield the Board with a statutory declaration seeking exemption under section 50(7) of the Act. When a person is admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Board will write confirming the person's admission. The Committee receives inquiries and complaints about legal practitioners. If, succeeding the preliminary assessment, a feasible conduct issue is identified, the concern will proceed to be formally investigated as a complaint. The Committee’s legal officers can assist with identifying when an issue being raised is one in respect of which such advice should be sought. The Committee cannot generally trust complaints from a person who does not have a direct personal interest in the matter of complaint. As evidence of admission into the legal profession in an Australian jurisdiction (other than in Western Australia), the applicant for the grant of a local practicing certificate must (if the applicant has not previously done so) provide to the Board within 14 days of lodgement of the applicant’s application, a certified copy of the applicant’s admission certificate in the Australian jurisdiction in which the applicant was beginning admitted into the legal profession. Failure by an applicant to yield a certified copy of an admission certificate within the specified period may result in the Board refusing to consider the application for the grant of a local practicing certificate.
